Six people were sent to hospital with serious or critical injuries after Saturday's wild parties around Western University, with dozens of people facing charges for being a public nuisance, jumping off roofs and urinating in public.
While police kept revellers primarily calm and quiet during the day — Middlesex London Paramedic Service was called seven times and took two people to hospital between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday — things got significantly more dangerous in the evening and overnight.
"(We) saw an influx of calls for services in the Broughdale area from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m., which warranted an additional 68 calls for paramedics and resulted in 30 people being transported to hospital with varying issues," said spokesperson Miranda Bothwell.
"Six of those patients would have been classified as serious/critical."
About 2,000 people were at parties on Huron Street and surrounding areas near the university, police said. Broughdale Avenue, one block north of Huron and the past notorious site of massive gatherings, was closed by police for the day.
"While there were no major incidents to report, the event was a significant strain on emergency services throughout the city of London," police said in a statement.
London police issued statistics for only their daytime enforcement on Saturday, and while there were large parties into the night, the statistics on those are not available, police said.
