6 more COVID-19 deaths in London, Ont., as ICU admissions decline on Wednesday

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) on Wednesday reported six additional deaths of people with COVID-19.
Three of the six were vaccinated twice, and of those, one person also had a booster dose. Three others were unvaccinated.

There have now been 35 COVID-19-related deaths in Middlesex-London in January. It is the second deadliest month on record behind January 2021, when there were 73.
The death toll since the pandemic began is up to 294.
The MLHU reported 180 new cases of COVID-19 among people in high-risk jobs or settings. The seven-day rolling average for daily cases is down to 199.
The London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) on Wednesday reported 163 inpatients, up by 14 from the previous day.

Twenty patients require critical care, down by one from the previous day. The number of staff who have tested positive for the virus is down to 192.

Southwestern Public Health reported 29 patients with COVID-19 in hospitals in Elgin-Oxford, including 10 in critical care.
The health unit posted 54 new COVID-19 infections Wednesday and no additional deaths. There are 711 known active cases in Elgin-Oxford.
Also Wednesday, Ontario reported 89 additional COVID-19-related deaths, which happened over the last three weeks. There are 608 patients in intensive care units across the province, down by 18 from Tuesday.
The Ministry of Health said about 83 per cent of those in critical care were admitted for COVID-19-related illnesses, while 17 per cent tested positive for the virus after being transferred for another reason.
