6 dead, 1 missing due to rains, says Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that six people have died and one person was missing due to the rains that have been lashing across the state. Holidays have also been declared in six districts of Kerala.
A total of six people have died and one person is missing as of now due to the rains in Kerala, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, on Monday, August 1. Holidays have been declared in 6 districts, namely Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki.
According to reports, the rains will continue in the southern districts till Wednesday and intensify in northern districts after that. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for 7 districts across the state.
The state has also opened a control room to combat issues that may occur during the next few days.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has also called for an immediate meeting on Monday with the district collectors. He further visited the state disaster management office and inquired about the preparations in view of rainfall.
People have been requested not to travel to hilly regions if not necessary. Night travel has been banned in Idukki and control rooms have also been opened in various districts.
