5th Test | Are you nervous yet? Michael Vaughan teases Wasim Jaffer after England off to rapid start in 378 chase
India Today
India tour of England: Michael Vaughan began his social media banter with Wasim Jaffer after the hosts put on a 100-run stand for the opening wicket in their chase of 378 on Day 4 of the Birmingham Test.
India were put under pressure early in the 4th innings of the rescheduled 5th Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham as England openers Alex Lees and Zak Crawley got off to a rapid start in their chase of 378. England raced to 100 without losing a wicket in just 19.5 overs as panic set in the Indian camp on Monday, July 4.
Only two teams have chased in excess of 350 in England in the history of Test cricket -- 404/3 in 1948 by Australia and 362/9 by England in Leeds in 2019. However, England began their chase of 378 wonderfully well with Indian pacers feeding them freebies in the post-Lunch session on Day 4.
England are high on confidence after having chased in excess of 250 runs thrice in as many matches during their 3-0 hammering of world Test champions New Zealand last month. England chased 279 in 78.5 overs in the first Test, 299 in just 50 overs in the 2nd Test and 296 in just 54.2 overs in the 3rd Test as the hosts flaunted their 'Bazball' approach under new captain Ben Stokes and new head coach Brendon McCullum.
England vs India, 5th Test Day 4 Updates
England are well-placed to script a historic win as they have plenty of firepower left in the tank with the likes of Joe Root and in-form Jonny Bairstow, who hit a counter-attacking hundred in the first innings, and Stokes yet to come.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan began the banter on Monday, teasing his good friend and former India opener Wasim Jaffer on Twitter.
"Are you nervous yet @WasimJaffer14," Vaughan said on social media.
