5th annual Ride for Her rolls through northeast Avalon

The fifth annual Ride for Her fundraiser kicked off in St. John's on Sunday.
Despite the rain showers and hovering grey clouds, the event drew about 50 people to raise money for and awareness of ovarian cancer in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Belles with Balls N.L. hosted the event, a charity drive that meandered across the northeastern Avalon Peninsula starting in Portugal Cove-St. Philip's and ending at Akita Equipment on the Trans-Canada Highway on the outskirts of St. John's.
Bonnie Morgan and Alana Walsh-Giovannini are co-chairs of the organization.
"Basically we plan a route every year with this program and today it's the official Belles ride. But you can ride anywhere from June to September," said Walsh-Giovannini.
"It's just one of the initiatives that we have to raise money for ovarian cancer research and education right here in Newfoundland and Labrador."
