Ontario Provincial Police say a 54-year-old novice driver was travelling with drugs and without a required ignition interlock device or a qualified driver in the vehicle when it ended up in the ditch off Highway 11 last month, leading to multiple charges including impaired driving.

On Aug. 30, James Bay OPP responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 11, west of Hearst, Ont.
"The 54-year-old G1 driver did not have the ignition interlock device required by their licence," police said in a social media post.
As a result of the police investigation, the driver faces two impaired driving charges, careless driving, operation while prohibited, G1 licence holder driving unaccompanied by a qualified driver, driving a motor vehicle not equipped with an ignition interlock device, operating an unsafe vehicle, driving motor vehicle no valid permit, novice driver operating vehicle in presence of drug along with a drug possession charge.
In addition to the charges, the driver also had their license suspended for 90 days and the vehicle involved was impounded by police for 45 days at the owner’s expense.
None of the allegations has been proven in court.
