As many as 514 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the district on Friday. When 226 of them contracted the virus through direct contact with infected persons, the source of infection could not be identified in 269 cases. District officials said here on Friday that 62 persons recovered from the disease in Palakkad. The number of persons currently under treatment in the district rose to 3,725.

Under the NBS, newborns are screened for communication disorders before they are discharged from the hospital. For this, AIISH has collaborated with several hospitals to conduct screening which is performed to detect hearing impairment and other developmental disabilities that can affect speech and language development. The screening has been helping in early intervention for those identified with the disorders, as any delay in the identification poses risk and affects successful management of children with hearing loss, according to AIISH.
