At least 50 Dalit families from a village in Jharkhand's Palamu were allegedly driven out of their homes by members of the Muslim community in the area. However, the Muslims of the area said families took money from them and left voluntarily. They also said that a few hours after taking the money, the Dalits raised a hue and cry making "false allegations".
The Dalits, belonging to the Mushar caste, have been living in the Marumatu village in the land given to them by the state administration.
The Dalits have alleged that a mob demolished their homes and their belongings were forcibly transported to a village in Chhatarpur. Nandlal Musahar and Radha Devi, two members of a Dalit family, told India Today that they have been residing in their huts in the Tongri Pahadi area and on Monday they became homeless.
