5 roles we’d like Shah Rukh Khan to play. Our Wednesday Wishlist
India Today
We cannot get enough of Shah Rukh Khan! Before he makes a comeback to films next year, here are five challenging roles we would like him to essay on-screen.
Shah Rukh Khan - naam to suna hoga? The Badshah of Bollywood has been ruling over our hearts for almost three decades now, and we still can't get enough of him. Be it his dimpled cheeks and infectious smile or his films and dance numbers, SRK is the quintessential lover boy. One thing's for sure: Shah Rukh Khan loves experimenting with his roles. Millennials have felt Rahul’s (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai) and Raj’s (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge) love story truly, and enjoyed the enigma of Kabir Khan (Chak De India). He played a maniacal celebrity worshipper in one (Fan), a gangster in another (Dilwale) and a wise old psychiatrist (Dear Zindagi) in the third. In his last film, Zero, SRK played a cheerful, aging dwarf.
So, it would be safe to assume that Shah Rukh is not hunting for safe choices anymore. When he tried revisiting his familiar trope of romance with Jab Harry Met Sejal, things didn't really work out for him. Seems like the audience also want to see him do something outside his comfort zone. On Wednesday Wishlist, we have jotted down some roles that we would like to see our king of romance perform.
Shah Rukh Khan would make a perfect poet, don't you think? The actor has the perfect command over his words and body language while speaking to the crowd. In fact, there were also reports of him portraying the legendary poet Sahir Ludhianvi in his biopic. Many years ago, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali had said that he would one day want to make a biopic on Sahir Ludhianvi. Later, it was reported that SRK's production house Red Chillies Entertainment took it over. While more details on it are awaited, we hope we get to see Shah Rukh Khan play a poet.
A thriller carried on the shoulder of just one man and who better for it than Shah Rukh himself? This is as experimental as it could get. SRK turned Special Task Force Officer in One Two Ka Four. However, he didn't really play the tough cop role and put on a police uniform like Ajay Devgn's Singham. Once in an interview, King Khan also said that he wanted to play the investigating officer in Ittefaq for which Akshaye Khanna was roped in. It would definitely be interesting to watch SRK come on the screen with full blazing guns and fighting the baddies. Rohit Shetty, are you listening?
"Objection, My Lord." Won't it be killer hearing this from Shah Rukh Khan on screen? SRK will win any case with his wit, intelligence, and, of course, the famous charm! Bollywood needs a solid story with more layers and more heart, and the actor would do justice to it as a lawyer in a serious crime thriller.
Shah Rukh Khan has always been an actor for the masses. He has become a star, a dancer, a musician in his films, but a fashion designer? Not yet! It would be fascinating to see what SRK can offer us in this role. Well, an actor who is super stylish in his real life can pull off the role of a fashion designer perfectly. We don't doubt that.
No one can disagree that, even at 56, Shah Rukh commands an onscreen presence that would give many younger stars a run for their money. We have seen him as a psychologist (Dr Jehangir Khan) in Dear Zindagi. However, he has never worn a white lab coat and carried a stethoscope as a surgeon or a physician. An intense role like this is bound to be a super hit.
