40,953 Fresh Cases In India, Highest Single-Day Rise In Nearly 4 Months

India today added over 40,000 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours - highest daily-rise since November 29 - amid a worrying surge in coronavirus cases that has prompted some states to consider return of school closures, restrictions on public gatherings and other virus-fighting measures, including lockdown in their worst-hit districts.
The daily rise in infections (40,953) was the highest recorded in 111 days, while the number of fatalities has risen to 1,59,558 with 188 daily new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.
