Rajinikanth is currently shooting for Jailer. Here is a look at a few roles we would like to see him do after the Nelson Dilipkumar-helmed movie hits screens.
Rajinikanth is currently shooting for Jailer, which marks his first collaboration with filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar. The film features the mass hero in the role of an authority figure. Going by its striking first look poster, Superstar Rajinikanth will be seen in a completely new avatar in the flick. Interestingly, Rajinikanth has never hesitated to experiment with his reel image. During his career, he has excelled in action roles as well as comic ones. That said, there are still a few things that fans would love to see him do in the years to come. In this week's Wednesday Wishlist, here is a look at a few roles that Rajinikanth can essay or revisit to continue his reign.
Rajinikanth made his debut with a negative role in Apoorva Raagangal (1975), which is regarded as one of the finest films of K Balachander’s career. He subsequently played the antagonist in movies such as 16 Vayathinile and Moondru Mudichu, giving proof of his acting abilities. He eventually transitioned to ‘hero’ roles and emerged as Kollywood’s Thalaivar. It would be really amazing to see him play an intense antagonist on the screen again. We got glimpses of Rajinikanth as a villain in Enthiran, but a full-fledged film would be the ultimate treat.
Lokesh Kanagaraj scored a big hit with Kaithi (2019), which marked his first collaboration with Karthi. He expanded its world with the Kamal Haasan-led Vikram. In doing so, he established the Loki Cinematic Universe (LCU). Ulaganayagan is reportedly set to lock horns with Suriya in its proposed sequel. It would be a dream come true for many if Rajinikanth could join the LCU with a standalone film.
This could also pave the way for a future multi-starrer with Thalaivar, Kamal Haasan, and Suriya against each other. While nothing is set in stone, Lokesh had recently expressed a desire to direct the Super One in a film.
Rajinikanth delivered a blockbuster when he teamed up with Shankar for Enthiran (2010). The film proved to be a treat for the younger generation The two later reunited for 2.0, which opened to a sensational response at the global box office. It exceeded expectations in Hindi to emerge as a clean hit. 2.0 was bigger and grander than the first part, something that worked in its favour. It proved to be a visual delight as it was shot in 3D. 2.0 ended on a hilarious note and introduced us to the micro-bot, Kutti.
A sequel, featuring Rajinikanth as the adorable character, is an exciting prospect. It has the potential to be a box office draw given the brand’s popularity. This may also help him become even more popular among kids.
The phenomenal response to films such as Bajirao Mastaani and Baahubali proved fans are more than willing to watch larger-than-life period dramas on the big screen, provided the content is up to the mark. It would be interesting to see Rajinikanth in this genre. If such a thing happens, it will mark a new beginning for Rajinikanth. Superstar has never starred in a full-fledged period drama, barring the 3D motion capture movie Kochadaiiyaan.
