The Kerala Police inducted 339 recruit police constables, who completed training in various battalions, into the force on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan took salute at the passing-out parade held at the Special Armed Police (SAP) ground in Thiruvananthapuram. He exhorted the new inductees to embody pro-people behaviour in their duties.
He acknowledged the evolution of the police force over time, while also addressing lingering “remnants” within the law enforcement machinery, referencing activities that have brought the force in disrepute in recent times.
The inductees represented battalions including SAP, Malabar Special Police, Kerala Armed Police Battalions I, II, III, IV and V, and Armed Women Police Battalion.
Don Christo of Puthiyathura, Thiruvananthapuram, was the parade commander, while Ashwin T.T. of Vengalam, Kozhikode, was the second-in-command. The Chief Minister distributed awards to the recruits for excellence during the training period.
There are 36 engineering graduates among the new inductees, while 30 hold various postgraduate degrees including seven MBAs. A total of 161 recruits have completed undergraduate courses including BBA and BCA.
State Police Chief Shaik Darvesh Saheb and other senior police officers were present on the occasion.
