A KSRTC bus plying between Chamarajanagar and Bengaluru overturned near Rudrakshipura, in Maddur taluk of Mandya district in Karnataka, on January 20, resulting in injuries to 33 passengers.
The injured passengers were rushed to Maddur taluk hospital for treatment.
“Except for three passengers, who suffered head injuries, the rest were undergoing treatment for minor injuries,” said Deputy Commissioner of Mandya Kumar, who visited the hospital in Maddur. “The passengers, who had suffered head injuries, will be shifted to either Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) in Mandya or NIMHANS in Bengaluru.”
The injured passengers had been given the option to undergo medical treatment at any private hospital of their choice, and necessary instructions had been issued to KSRTC to bear the expenses for the same.
“The mishap occurred when the driver lost control of the bus,” Mr Kumar said.
As a few students, who were due to appear for exams, were among the injured passengers, Mr Kumar said the administration will compile a list of such students and interact with the principals, or heads of the institutions, to make alternative arrangements for them.
Chief Executive Officer of Mandya Zilla Panchayat Shaikh Tanveer Asif, Mandya District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Mohan, and KSRTC Controller Nagaraju were among the officials who visited the hospital to enquire about the well-being of the passengers.

In July 2024, BBMP said to have removed 8,500 unauthorised flexes and banners, and registered 180 FIRs. In August 2023, after HC directed the BBMP, the civic body had removed 59,000 flexes. The BBMP had even slapped ₹50,000 fine on Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar for allegedly erecting an illegal banner outside the KPCC office. However, action of this scale seems to be not visible in the last three months, said Mallikarjun, an activist who has been fighting against illegal hoardings for many years, adding that the BBMP springs to action only when pulled up.
