Three people connected with the Popular Front of India have been arrested by the police in the Kanpur violence case.
The Kanpur Police have arrested three people connected with Muslim organisation Popular Front of India (PFI) in the Kanpur violence case.
The three have been identified as Saifullah, Mohammad Naseem and Mohammad Umar. The three had also been arrested when violence had broken out during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act in 2019.
Violent clashes and stone-pelting were witnessed in Kanpur on Friday (June 3) after a Muslim organisation had called to shut down shops at the Parade Market, one of the biggest wholesale markets in the city, over BJP leader Nupur Sharma’s controversial comments about the Prophet Mohammed during a TV debate.
The three arrested on Tuesday allegedly mobilised stone-pelters and were in contact with Hayat Zafar Hashmi, identified as the main conspirator in the violence by the police.
