3 arrested for GST fraud near Mumbai

The Metropolitan Magistrate on Friday sent the three accused to 14 days in judicial custody.
Three firms in Navi Mumbai were found involved in suspicious business activities by officials of the Maharashtra State GST (Goods and Services Tax), following which three people were arrested for tax fraud.
Investigations were conducted at the premises of these companies in Ulhasnagar on April 25.
It was found that these taxpayers had obtained GST registration by providing fake documents like electricity bills collected from doorsteps and making leave and license agreements without the knowledge of owners.
They circulated bogus invoices of taxable value of Rs 218.26 crore to others without supplying any goods or services and passed ITC of Rs 39.28 crore to their beneficiaries.
The Metropolitan Magistrate on Friday sent the three accused to 14 days in judicial custody.
With this, the state GST department has made eight major arrests in this financial year.
