West Indies were 71 for one at stumps in their first innings on day two at Kensington Oval, 436 runs behind England, for whom Joe Root (153) and Ben Stokes (120) made contrasting centuries.
England finished on 507 for 9 declared while the West Indies responded with 71 for 1, still trailing by 436 runs at stumps on Day 2 of the Barbados Test. In total, only seven wickets fell across three sessions of play during the course of the day.
After nearly two hot days on the field, West Indies captain and opener Kraigg Brathwaite displayed good discipline to survive until stumps, unbeaten on 28.
Shamarh Brooks survived a couple of poor shots to be 31 not out. Fisher received a harsh initiation to the test arena when his first ball was worked by left-hander John Campbell through gully for four.
Captain Joe Root and all-rounder Ben Stokes made contrasting centuries before England declared at 507 for nine wickets shortly after tea.
By lunch at 369/3, Stokes had 89 off 92 balls and was the fifth men's allrounder to at least 5,000 runs and 150 wickets, in company with Garfield Sobers, Ian Botham, Kapil Dev and Jacques Kallis.
In the second over after lunch, Root was out, lbw on the front pad to Kemar Roach on 153 from 316 balls. West Indies overturned the not out decision on review, and Roach passed Sobers on the West Indies wicket-takers list to seventh.
Stokes reached his 11th Test hundred off 114 balls. A single to the off side got him to his first test ton since 2020.
