At least 29 more hospitals have come up across West Bengal for the specialised treatment of stroke patients through telemedicine consultations.
Kolkata's government-run hospital, Bangur Institute of Neurosciences (BIN) was being used as a hub for the treatment of stroke patients coming to the district hospital under the telemedicine system. Seeing the success of the pilot project, 29 more hospitals have been added to BIN. Set up across the state, it has been decided they will remain as branch centers.
The health department has recently launched the 'Health Indications' project to reach out to remote areas of the district for medical services. Last December, ‘Tele Neuro medicine Brain Stroke Management’ was added to the project. With the addition of BIN, 11 district hospitals and one medical college provided 24-hour service.
According to the guidelines of the health department issued on Friday, 29 more hospitals in the state, including medical colleges, district, and sub-divisional levels, have been brought under the project. The new hospitals will have one nodal officer as well as three medical officers and two CT scan technicians.
