
262 prisoners test Covid positive at Poojappura Central Jail in Kerala

The Poojappura Central Jail in Kerala’s in Thiruvananthapuram became a Covid cluster after as many as 262 prisoners tested positive.
As many as 262 prisoners have tested positive for Covid-19 at Poojappura Central Jail in Kerala’s in Thiruvananthapuram.
Antigen tests were done on 936 prisoners in the past three days, of which 262 samples came back positive.The prison superintendent has demanded that special doctors be appointed to take care of the infected prisoners. The inmates who tested Covid positive have been moved to a separate cell block.
Meanwhile, 10 prisoners tested positive Covid-19 at the central prison in Kannur. Those who tested positive are remand prisoners from Kozhikode and Kasaragod.
These prisoners have been isolated in a separate cell block. More tests are being conducted on the other inmates in the prison.
Kerala is witnessing a sharp spike in Covid-19 cases, with 41,668 fresh infections reported on Friday. Thiruvananthapuram topped the list of positive cases at 7,896. The state government has imposed fresh restrictions to contain the spread of the virus.
