Based on the seventh generation S-Class, the Maybach oozes luxury matching its exorbitant price tag from every corner. The exterior and interior both build on the S-Class with styling cues and features exclusive to the Maybach variant. We see the Maybach vertical-slatted radiator grille up front, with chrome mesh air intakes for the front bumper. Compared to the long wheelbase S-Class sold in India, the Maybach S-Class has a 180mm longer wheelbase to liberate more leg-room in the second row. Dedicated Maybach logo and lettering has been appointed on the exterior, and it rides on alloy wheels exclusive to this trim.
The cabin is a comprehensive upgrade in the Maybach. It features a long list of upholstery and trim options for the heated and cooled with massage function all around. The rear seats also get recline adjustments, folding tables, leg support, blinds and many more features. The rear-doors are electrically operated, and the cup-holders have temperature adjustments. The MBUX is accessible through the large screens, same as the S-Class, with additional screens for the rear passengers.
Powerwise, the outgoing Maybach had a V8 and V12 engine option, the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is sold internationally in S 580 and S 680 variants. S 580 is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 making 510bhp and the S 680 is powered by the 6.0-litre Twin-Turbo V12 making 612bhp, both the cars come with 4MATIC AWD tech, rear-wheel steering, air suspension and plenty of driver assistance features.
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class will be the second Maybach product in India after the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC. Competition wise, the car goes up against the Roll-Royce Ghost and the Bentley Flying Spur internationally. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is priced between Rs 1.59 crore and Rs 1.66 crore (ex-showroom, India). Expect the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class price in India to cross the Rs 2 crore mark.
