
2 gruesome murders, nationwide protests: India reels under violence over Prophet remarks

India has been facing massive protests and violence over former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma's remarks against the Prophet. Her comments started a controversy that led to two gruesome murders in the country.
Former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma's comments against Prophet Muhammad on May 26 sparked outrage across the country. Massive protests erupted in which many people were killed and several injured.As the anger raged over the incident, two people were brutally murdered for supporting the former BJP leader on social media.A tailor was brutally murdered in broad daylight in Udaipur on June 28 over a social media post in support of Nupur Sharma. Two men who chopped his head off and later recorded a video admitting to killing. The four accused in the Udaipur murder case, including the prime accused Mohammad Riyaz and Ghouse Mohammad, have been sent to National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody till July 12.
This incident was followed by another gruesome murder of a chemist in Maharashtra's Amravati on Saturday. Local BJP leaders submitted a letter to police alleging that Kolhe was killed to “take revenge and set an example”. Six people, including the prime accused, have been arrested so far in the case.
