2 dead, 6 hurt after explosion rocks sugar refinery in Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada

An explosion at a sugar refinery in Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada district resulted in the deaths of two people. Six others were also injured in the accident. A preliminary probe revealed that the explosion was probably triggered by a short circuit in a conveyer belt.
Two people died and six others were injured after an explosion occurred at a sugar refinery in Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada district on Friday afternoon, August 19.
The refinery was located in the Vakalapudi area near Kakinada city. According to the preliminary investigations, the fire was probably triggered by a short circuit at the conveyer belt where the sugar bags are packed.
The injured have been shifted to Kakinada Government Hospital and are being treated. One injured person, who is reportedly in critical condition, was admitted to a private hospital for advanced treatment.
Kakinada Rural MLA K Kannababu and district Superintendent of Police M Ravindranath Babu visited the sugar plant and supervised the rescue operation.
“The fire department, electrical department and police officials are inspecting the area and a case has been registered," said Kakinada SP Ravindranath Babu.
