Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai alleged that two crore consumers are being cheated on a daily basis by Aavin, the state-run milk cooperative. He claimed that a 500ml packet contained only 430ml of milk.
Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief, Annamalai, has alleged that 2 crore consumers are being cheated every day by Aavin, the government-run milk cooperative.
BJP state president Annamalai claims that the amount of milk is being drastically reduced in the packets sold by Aavin. Annamalai stated that only 430ml of milk is really provided in a 500ml milk packet from Aavin.
“This would cost Rs 3.08/- for a packet. In Tamil Nadu, 70 lakh 500ml packets are sold every day, through which Rs 2.16 crore is being swindled from the consumers. Whom does this money go to?” questioned Annamalai.
He further stated that if this had been a mechanical error, 5 lakh litres of milk would have been in excess and questioned what happened to that amount of milk. Annamalai also asked who would take responsibility for the scam and whether this would fall upon officials while the Chief Minister and other ministers escape.
In January 2022, former AIADMK minister, Rajendra Balaji, was arrested for misappropriating Rs 3 crore worth of funds from Tamil Nadu’s milk cooperative, Aavin, when he was the dairy minister during AIADMK’s rule in 2016.
