169 new COVID-19 cases in the London area Tuesday, no deaths

The Middlesex-London Health Unit is reporting 169 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, the most in a single day since Apr. 14, the height of the third wave. There were no additional deaths reported.
As the number of cases continues to climb in the region, hospitalizations remain relatively low. London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is caring for 14 people with COVID-19, down two from the previous day. There are six adult patients in critical care, five or fewer patients in the Children's Hospital.
There are currently 31 LHSC staff who have tested positive and are isolating. There are no active outbreaks at London hospitals.
The MLHU posted 48 recoveries on Tuesday, with 971 active cases in the region.
The seven-day rolling average for daily cases is up to 112.
The majority of new cases are among people aged 40 to 64 (49 cases), followed by people aged 25 to 39 (48 cases).
There were just four cases reported among people aged 65 and older.
The Thames Valley Family Health Team announced a new COVID-19 Rapid Molecular Testing site will be available starting Jan. 5., catering to health workers and school-aged children.
The testing centre will be set up at the Springbank Medical Centre at 460 Springbank Drive.
Appointments will be available starting Jan. 4, through the online booking system.
Bookings for COVID-19 vaccinations are full, according the MLHU, though people are being encouraged to keep trying for an appointment as many are being cancelled after people land a jab at participating pharmacies.
As of Dec. 18, there have been 881,050 doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered in Middlesex-London. Over 87 per cent of people aged five and older have had one dose, while 81.8 per cent are fully vaccinated.
Southwestern Public Health is reporting 35 new COVID-19 cases and two additional deaths on Tuesday. There are 318 ongoing cases in the region, along with eight patients in hospital, including three in critical care.
Huron Perth Public Health posted 44 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, with 112 ongoing infections in the region.
