A 16-year boy was killed after he was involved in an altercation with a group of youth early Wednesday evening in London's Glen Cairn neighbourhood, in the southeast.
On Thursday afternoon, police identified the boy as Malik McDonnell-Mills, of London.
Police were called to an area near Thompson Road and King Edward Avenue around 6:45 p.m. and found the teen with life threatening injuries. He was taken to hospital where he later died.
Thursday morning, a section of Russell Avenue, between King Edward Avenue and Gladstone Avenue, was cordoned off as police remained on the scene. Charges have not been laid.
Karen Clark, who lives nearby, recalls hearing a group of teenagers screaming while she was in her backyard Wednesday evening.
"I saw one guy run down the street, three guys running after him. And then all of a sudden I saw two girls go running after him," she said. She later saw three boys walking back toward Thompson Road.
"This morning I found out that a young man was killed," she said.
Jacqueline Rose, who lives near Russell Avenue, came back from her son's birthday dinner Wednesday evening to find police cars and caution tape along the street.
"As we walked up, we noticed that there was a very, very large amount of blood all over the road," she said. "A lot of the kids are hiding in their houses so they don't have to see it."
Rose said she feels unsafe knowing this happened right outside her door.
"I have teenagers myself," she said. "We know a lot of the kids in this neighborhood."
"It is a very active and ongoing investigation," said Const. Sandasha Bough.
Police have no additional information about the victim pending next of kin notification, she said.
"We are appealing to members of the public. If they happen to be in the area, if they happen to know anything at all to please give us a call," said Bough.
