126 high court vacancies filled in under a year, 50 more appointments soon: CJI NV Ramana

At the 39th Chief Justices’ Conference in Delhi, Chief Justice of India N V Ramana said 126 vacancies in various high courts had been filled and 50 more appointments were expected.
After a span of six years, Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana inaugurated the 39th Chief Justices’ Conference on Friday morning while stressing on the need to adopt some resolutions which can then be shared with the government at the joint conference with the chief ministers tomorrow.
Speaking at the 39th Chief Justices’ Conference in Delhi, Ramana said, “Due to our collective efforts, we could fill 126 vacancies in various high courts in less than a year. We are expecting 50 more appointments.”
Further, he emphasised that the aim and object of the conference was to discuss and identify problems affecting the administration of justice.
The joint conference will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju and Chief Justice of India N V Ramana along with other dignitaries on Saturday, April 30.
This year’s agenda includes a special emphasis on the district judiciary, as it forms the backbone of the judicial system, apart from the issue of vacancies of high court judges.

The main thrust of the conference will be to plan ways of reducing the pendency of cases, place a robust system of legal aid services and draw a future road map for the same, filling up of judicial vacancies, envisioning e-courts phase-3 and infrastructure development for the judiciary.
