For the first time in Sivaganga, a mega 11-day book fair would be conducted from April 15 to 26, said District Collector P Madhusudan Reddy.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, he said that the book expo would have 110 stalls with famous publishing houses participating in it. “Through out the exhibition, book reading sessions between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m will be held. Competitions for students and other programmes would also be held,” the Collector said.
The exhibition would be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the organisers have proposed to conduct discourse, stage some folk arts from the region and also display traditional food on a food-court model.
The district, which is famous for Chettinad dishes would have an exclusive counter for this. About 10 stalls would be earmarked to those in public service, which would be useful for visitors.
The Collector said that Keeladi, which is now making national headlines, following a series of excavations, would have the findings and literatures on display for the public to understand the historic importance. “Steps are also being taken to view the expo in YouTube”, officials said.
The Collector visited the venue at Mannar Higher Secondary School and reviewed the arrangements with senior officials led by District Revenue Officer P. Manivannan, Project Director Sivaraman, Food Safety officer S. Prabhavathi, District Supply Officer C. Ratnavel, PA (Development) M Veeraraghavan and among others.
