100-day intensive campaign for TB elimination in Erode district begins
As part of the National TB Elimination programme, a 100-day intensive campaign will be conducted in the district from till March 22, 2025.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, launched the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme to make the country TB-free by 2025. As part of achieving the goal in the district, District Collector Raja Gopal Sunkara flagged off an awareness vehicle on Saturday.
The Collector said that camps would be held across the district for 100 days to screen people for tuberculosis (TB) and provide treatment to those diagnosed. The campaign aimed to accelerate the fight against TB by improving case detection, reducing diagnostic delays, enhancing treatment outcomes, and ensuring the district became TB-free. Advanced screening equipment would be used to screen people free of cost during the camps, he added.
Symptoms of TB, which included a persistent cough lasting more than two weeks, chest pain, weakness or fatigue, loss of appetite, fever, night sweats, loss of weight and coughing up blood. Individuals with diabetes or weakened immunity should undergo tests without fail. Residents should actively participate in the screening camps held in their respective areas for early diagnosis and treatment. He also urged people to cooperate fully with the Health Department during door-to-door visits.
