The search for the little girl who fell through the ice of Whirl Creek in Mitchell, Ont., has ended in tragedy, Ontario Provincial Police said Tuesday morning.
The body of Taleya Paris, 10, of West Perth was found by a searcher on Monday at around 3 p.m. ET in the creek, West Perth OPP said. She was last seen March 6. The death is not considered suspicious.
"Heaven gained another angel this week," wrote the girl's family on a GoFundMe page asking for help to pay for the child's funeral expenses.
Her family also needs money to help pay for grief counselling for her family, the page states.
Weather hindered the search efforts, OPP said. Multiple emergency crews from the region spent nine days combing the creek and tributaries.
"The conditions for searching were very difficult. Visibility was poor, water levels were changing constantly, that's why searchers were in the same spot for so long, doing a thorough job, making sure she could be located," said Const. Jillian Johnson.
Police say fluctuating temperatures have added an extra layer of complexity to the search.
