1 person dead after Cambridge shooting, police search for suspect

Waterloo regional police are investigating a Sunday night shooting in Cambridge that left a 46-year-old man dead.
Police have confirmed this is the region's first homicide of 2022.
Police said officers responded to a residence in the area of Cedar Street and Dale Avenue at 10:25 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired.
Officers found a 46-year-old Cambridge man with injuries from a gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police are now looking for a male suspect in his late teens. He is described as 5'8", slim build, with dark brown wavy hair and brown eyes.
Police said he was last wearing a red pouch around his neck, a grey tracksuit with black trim zippers and strings and black shoes.
The suspect is believed to have fled the area in a black Mazda SUV with tinted windows. He was last seen in the area of Cedar Street.
The suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous, police said, advising people to not approach him, but to call 9-1-1.
Police said the incident is believed to be isolated and the suspect and victim were known to each other.
Investigators are following up on leads and updates will be provided when possible, police said.
There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area as police canvass the neighbourhood.
