One person is dead and two other people were transported to hospital with serious injuries following the crash in the westbound lanes of Hwy. 417 at the Aviation Parkway shortly after 3:30 a.m. Thursday. The westbound lanes of the highway reopened just after 12:30 p.m.
Photos from CTV News Ottawa's Katelyn Wilson show a badly damaged sedan facing eastbound on the highway, while the second vehicle was in the ditch.
OPP Const. Michael Fathi says one of the vehicles involved in the crash was travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the highway.
"The investigation is still ongoing," Fathi said.
Fathi tells CTV News Ottawa that OPP dispatch received 9-1-1 calls reporting a vehicle travelling the wrong way on Hwy. 417 shortly before the crash.
