One person is dead and Vancouver police say one man has been arrested after a pair of "serious incidents" in the downtown core Wednesday morning.
The Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Hamilton Street was behind police tape and a body was visible under a police tent nearby.
Two blocks away, forensic detectives were examining the front door of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Holy Rosary on Dunsmuir Street, where a trail of blood appeared to connect the church with another crime scene on Homer Street.
In a social media post around 8:45 a.m., the Vancouver Police Department said officers were examining crime scenes at the corner of W. Georgia and Hamilton streets, as well as near W. Georgia and Homer streets.
Police said the crimes occurred between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. but it is unclear to investigators whether the two incidents are related.
The department did not provide any details about the nature of the crimes now under investigation, but said additional officers had been dispatched to patrol the area and updates would be provided when available.
B.C. Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth issued a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying he had "just been briefed on this incident and am relieved that a suspect has been taken into custody."
