Tribune News NetworkDohaThe FIFA workshop for international referees nominated to officiate matches at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 was launched on Monday in Doha.The workshop will be held from 1-5 November and consists of an intensive programme that includes theoretical and practical sessions under the supervision of the Italian Pierluigi Collina, Head of the FIFA Referees Committee, Massimo Busacca, Executive Director of the FIFA Referees Department, Hani Ballan, Chairman of the Referees Committee of Qatar Football Association (QFA) and Vice-Chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee, along with the participation of Naji Jouini, Executive Director of the QFA Referees Department.The workshop will see the participation of 52 match officials (26 referees and 26 assistants), which include Qatari referee Abdulrahman Al-Jassem and assistant referee Talib Salem Al Marri.Hani Talib Ballan, Vice-Chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee, Chairman of the QFA Referees Committee, opened the workshop with a speech in which he expressed his thanks to FIFA for its great confidence in the QFA, and also praised the participants and lecturers for their support towards this event.For his part, Massimo Busacca, Executive Director of the FIFA Arbitration Department, stressed the importance of this workshop, especially as it represents a major step to determine the final list of the referees for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 matches.In a statement to the official website of the QFA, the Executive Director of the FIFA Arbitration Department thanked the State of Qatar and the QFA for their great support and for providing all the requirements needed to hold this workshop with high standards of professionalism.He also thanked the Referees Committee of the QFA, and expressed his happiness to be in Qatar, praising the excellent organization, limitless support and hospitality. He explained that the workshop includes theoretical lectures and practical application sessions in the Qatar University pitches, along with technical analysis and training on reading matches and their details. The theoretical part of the workshop is to be held in the Intercontinental hotel, through discussions, and video analysis.The working group in the workshop includes a team of international lecturers and another team for medical treatment, along with specialized fitness staff, specialists in technical and IT support, and administrative officials.
