Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru on Thursday said that all the pending work at the Integrated Bus Terminus at Panjapur on the Tiruchi-Madurai Highway will be completed by March 15.
Speaking to reporters here after holding a meeting to review the progress of work at the terminus, he said minor work such as the installation of meters and preparation of bus schedule was pending and would be expedited.
The Central Bus Stand and Chathiram Bus Stand will continue to function to handle the city buses, and the mofussil buses will be operated from the new bus terminus. There is a plan to operate omnibuses from the Central Bus Stand until the upcoming omnibus terminus was commissioned, he said.
Mr. Nehru reviewed the work of various departments, including the Tiruchi City Corporation, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Regional Transport Office, Tangedco, Water Supply Department, National Highways Authority of India, State Highways and Public Works Department.
He inspected the progress of the project and directed the officials to expedite the pending work at the terminus so as to inaugurate the facility by March end. Construction of bus bays, passenger waiting rooms, sanitation complexes, the installation of surveillance cameras, LED screens and lights, lifts and elevators, pathways for persons with disabilities, and display boards were reviewed. The officials were instructed to set up additional toilets and other amenities at the terminus to cater to the public.
The IBT, along with a truck terminal and multi-utility facilities centre, is being established at a cost of ₹492.55 crore. Mr. Nehru inspected the progress of the construction of an omnibus stand being established near the IBT.
Collector M. Pradeep Kumar, Corporation Commissioner V. Saravanan, Mayor M. Anbazhagan, and Commissioner of Police N. Kamini were present.
