Wikipedia’s appeal for donations triggers meme fest on Twitter. Best ones
India Today
Netizens took to Twitter to express their views about Wikipedia's donation appeal via memes.
It is safe to say that Wikipedia has helped most of us pass the toughest exam with utter ease. Think of that whatever you may, but you will be lying to yourself if you didn’t throw away your notes late at night just to scramble through the Wikipedia page and learn some of the toughest chapters on the syllabus overnight.
If you have been on the site lately, you probably have noticed a notification appearing on top of the page in a bold red box. “Hi. This isn’t the first time we’ve interrupted your reading recently, but 98% of our readers don't donate. Many think they’ll give later, but then forget. We request you to protect Wikipedia. All we ask is 25, or whatever seems right to you, to sustain our future. We request you: Please don't scroll away. If you are one of our rare donors, we warmly thank you,” the text reads.
Now, this is not the first time users have noticed this kind of a donation appeal on Wikipedia. The message has been popping out on the site for a long time and now netizens are a bit concerned. While some wrote about the lack of funds experienced by independent websites, others simply couldn’t help but share their views through hilarious memes.
Many took the help of popular meme templates taken out of iconic movies and series like Phir Hera Pheri, Golmaal Panchayat.
