Turning to black magic: PM Modi attacks Congress, all guns blazing

Dressed in all black, Congress leaders took to the streets on August 5 to protest against price rise, unemployment, and the hike in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on essential items.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tore into the Congress for their serial protests that began with the start of the Monsoon session of Parliament and reached a point of nucleation when MPs, leaders and workers of the grand old party turned up in black clothes on August 5.
“Some people are resorting to black magic as they are immersed in despair and negativity. On August 5, there was an attempt to propagate black magic. These people think that by wearing black clothes they will be able to end their period of despair,” the prime minister said, in a brazen and all-out attack on the Congress.
Dressed in all black, Congress leaders took to the streets on August 5 to protest against price rise, unemployment, and the hike in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on essential items.
“Some people in our country are trapped in the vortex of negativity and are immersed in despair. Despite their constant lies against the government, the public is not ready to trust them,” he added.
Coming down heavily on the culture of distributing freebies to get more votes in elections, the prime minister said, “Anyone can come and announce to give free petrol and diesel if their politics is self-centred. Such steps will take away the rights from our children and prevent the country from becoming self-reliant. It will increase the burden on the taxpayers.”
The prime minister and his party leaders have been quite vocal against electoral freebies - which they refer to as the “revdi culture”, an apparent jibe at the Aam Aadmi Party which has been trying to make inroads in Gujarat with promises of free electricity and education. The politically crucial state, also Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state, goes to polls later this year.
