Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on Sunday said Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar's act of discontinuing the Assembly was against the established norms. The latter reacted by saying that the DMK chief's remark was harsh and not based on fact.
A day after West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar prorogued the state legislative assembly on Saturday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said the former's act goes "against the established norms and conventions."
Taking to Twitter on Sunday, Stalin wrote, "The act of West Bengal Governor to prorogue the WB Assembly Session is without any propriety expected from the exalted post and goes against the established norms and conventions."
"The 'symbolic' head of the state should be the role model to uphold the constitution. Beauty of democracy lies in extending mutual respect to each other," he said in a subsequent tweet.
Dhankhar had prorogued the state legislative assembly with effect from February 12 based on the Bengal government's recommendation. To prorogue a session means to discontinue it for a period of time without dissolving it.
Replying to Stalin, Dhankhar on his official Twitter handle said, "Find it unusually expedient to respectfully invite indulgent attention of TN CM @mkstalin that his extremely harsh hurtful observations are not in the least in conformity with facts- attached order. Assembly was prorogued at express request @MamataOfficial @rajbhavan_tn."
Dhankhar also posted an official communication in this regard.
Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, "The governor did not take the decision on his own initiative. He has prorogued the Assembly following the recommendation of the Cabinet. There is no confusion in it."
