Summer break extends in West Bengal due to heatwave

After the announcement of early summer break, the state has decided to extend the period of vacations due to the heatwave.
West Bengal summer vacations have been extended till June 26 by the state government due to the extreme heatwave. The extension of summer vacations will be implemented in schools in hilly areas of the Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts.
Principal Secretary (Education) Manish Jain said that the decision has been taken to keep the students safe. "With regard to declaring summer vacation in the schools due to extreme heatwave conditions, as reports of a few death cases due to heat and humidity have been received, the competent authority has decided to extend the summer vacation..." the government release said.
The notice has been released in the aftermath of the death of three elderly pilgrims during a religious function at Panihati due to heat. The notice was issued to the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and the West Bengal Board of Primary Education.
