Students, youth must realise importance of democracy: CJI NV Ramana

While speaking at Columbia University in New York, CJI NV Ramana said that it is essential for people, particularly the students and youth to realise the importance of democracy.
On Friday, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana remarked that it is important for people, especially students and youth to realise the importance of democracy. The CJI’s comments came as he was speaking at the Columbia University in New York.
Speaking at Columbia University, the CJI remarked, “The 75-year long journey of my country so far is a testimony to the power of democracy. It is essential that people, particularly the students and youth, realise the importance of democracy."
CJI NV Ramana went on to remark, “It is only through your active participation that democracy can be sustained and strengthened.”
“Only a truly democratic order can be the foundation for lasting peace in the world," he added.
While visiting Columbia University in New York, the CJI also paid rich tributes to BR Ambedkar, who is also an alumnus of the varsity.
He paid floral tributes at BR Ambedkar's bust, which is situated in the Library Building of the University.
He had also remarked, “Long years ago, B. R. Ambedkar walked through the corridors of this great seat of learning. Today, I had the honour of walking in his footsteps. It is an emotional moment for me.”
