Australia limited-overs captain Aaron Finch on Monday confirmed the playing XI for the first ODI against Sri Lanka. The teams will begin the five-match series on June 14.
On the eve of the opening match, Finch said that Kane Richardson will miss the entire series due to a hamstring injury. The fast bowler suffered the injury during the warm-up prior to Australia's T20I loss to Sri Lanka on Saturday and scans have since revealed the extent of the injury.
Richardson will fly back to Australia and is expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks, Finch said. Australia are already short on bowling options for the match with Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Marsh out due to finger and calf injuries respectively.
Australia Test captain Pat Cummins was rushed into the playing XI for the first ODI, with seamers Josh Hazlewood and Jhye Richardson to make up the remainder of the attack. Spinner Ashton Agar has got a nod ahead of Mitchell Swepson.
