Sanjay Manjrekar has said that he feels Dinesh Karthik will be part of the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.
Sanjay Manjrekar has claimed that Dinesh Karthik has a good chance of being a part of the Indian squad for the upcoming T20I World Cup squad in Australia, saying that he ia an extremely tempting option to have.
Karthik's comeback into the Indian team has been nothing short of a fairytale as the Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper reinvented himself as a finisher for Royal Challengers Bangalore during this year's IPL. The 37-year-old scored 330 runs for his franchise at an average of 55 with a strike rate of 183.33.
He carried this form into the recently-concluded T20I series against South Africa, where he made a good impact with the bat and was the Man Of The Match in the fourth match against the Proteas.
With many people calling for him to be selected for the T20 World Cup, Manjrekar chimed in on the topic and said that he is most likely to get selected for the tournament.
In an exclusive interview with NDTV, the former Indian cricketer said that Karthik has a good chance to make the cut and is an extremely tempting option.
"I think there's a good chance that will happen because of him proving his worth. And that series against South Africa, especially in the last game (not the one that didn't have a result), where he was the player of the match, striking 200 was a show of his ability. So yes, he is an extremely tempting option. There'll be a few matches before the T20I World Cup so I guess he'll have to keep reminding the selectors that he's still relevant," said Manjrekar.
Manjrekar also revealed that he is in awe of the 37-year-old's ability to carve a niche for himself at this stage of his career.
