According to highly placed sources in the government, the evacuation of Indian students currently stuck in Ukraine's Sumy is likely to be top of the agenda during PM Modi’s calls with Ukraine President Zelenskyy and Russian President Putin.

Sumy, about 350 km east of capital city Kyiv and 180 km northwest of Kharkiv, is now at the centre of India’s evacuation efforts from the war zone. About 700 Indians, mostly students of medical colleges at Sumy State University, are stranded in the city in Ukraine’s northeast.
The Indian Embassy in Ukraine on Sunday advised students stuck in Sumy to be ready to leave on short notice. The embassy claimed that there is a team stationed in Poltava City to coordinate the safe passage of Indian students stranded in Sumy.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24. While the vast Russian armoured column threatening Ukraine’s capital remains stalled outside Kyiv, Russia’s military has launched hundreds of missile and artillery attacks on cities and other sites across the country.
