Rajya Sabha MP Amar Patnaik meets Nirmala Sitharaman, demands rollback of GST on handicrafts from 12% to 5%

The MPs on behalf of the Parliamentary Group on Handloom & Handicrafts demanded rollback of GST from 12% to 5%.

Rajya Sabha MP from Odisha, Amar Patnaik, along with a few other MPs met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on behalf of the parliamentary group on Handloom & Handicrafts, demanding rollback of GST from 12 per cent to 5 per cent.

The Centre’s November-2021 notification to increase the Goods and Service Tax (GST) on several textiles and apparel from 5 per cent to 12 per cent from 2022 is a big blow to the handloom sector.
