The Madras High Court has dismissed pleas for early release submitted by Rajiv Gandhi assassination convicts S Nalini and RP Ravichandran.
The Madras High Court, in its order, said that it cannot order the release of Nalini and Ravichandran, similar to the Supreme Court’s order in the case of AG Perarivalan.
The HC said that the Supreme court had exercised its special power under Article 142 of the Constitution to order the release of Perarivalan. The court, while dismissing the plea, advised the petitioners, Nalini and Ravichandran, to approach the Supreme court for the same.
Earlier on May 18, in a landmark judgement, AG Perarivalan, one of the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, had been released based on a Supreme court order.
This has also increased the hope of the other 6 convicts in the case who have been serving over 30 years in prison.
