Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will submit himself for questioning before the ED in the National Herald case. Meanwhile, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi has been asked to appear before the agency on June 23 as she is dealing with a Covid-19 infection.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is slated to present himself for questioning before the Enforcement Directorate on Monday, June 13, in the National Herald case. Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, who was hospitalised with Covid-19-related issues, is slated to appear before the central agency on June 23.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on June 1 issued summons to the Gandhis in a money-laundering case in connection with the National Herald-Associated Journals Ltd deal.
Rahul Gandhi was initially asked to appear on June 2 but he sought more time as he was outside the nation. While Sonia Gandhi was in India, she sought time to appear as she was down with Covid.
Meanwhile, Congress on Sunday accused the BJP of vendetta politics ahead of Rahul Gandhi's questioning. Several senior leaders hit out against the BJP, with Congress leader P Chidambaram saying that the ED action is "baseless". "It appears that the ED's jurisdiction does not extend to the BJP members or to states ruled by it," he said.
Congress leaders like Sachin Pilot in Lucknow, Vivek Tankha in Raipur, Digvijaya Singh in Bhopal, Sanjay Nirupam in Shimla, Ranjeet Ranjan in Chandigarh, Pawan Khera in Ahmedabad, and Alka Lamba conveyed their support to the leader.
Posters reading "I am Rahul Gandhi" and "Dear Modi & Shah, Rahul Gandhi won't bow" have also come up in several places in Delhi in support of the Congress MP.
The National Herald matter came to the fore when former BJP MP Subramanian Swamy filed a case in the Delhi High Court accusing Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi of land grabbing and misappropriating funds worth thousands of crores of Rupees.
