ATK Mohun Bagan were frail in defence last season. The team has been on a signing spree and now has snatched Pogba’s brother as their second foreign signing.
ATK Mohun Bagan are leaving no stones unturned to assemble a strong squad ahead of the new season of Indian Super League which is scheduled to be the premier competition in Indian football, in the new, revamped season.
The club has been been on a signing spree after the departure of stalwarts Roy Krishna and David Williams who made the club a powerhouse in Indian football. They had already picked up Indian speedster Ashique Kuruniyan from Bangalore and now have picked up Paul Pogba’s brother Florentin Pogba from French club Sochaux.
The elder brother of the World Cup winner from France, Florentin is a Guinea international who has been capped 31 times for his national team. During his youth days, Florentin represented the France U20 team as well.
A central defender by trait, Pogba is expected to be a rock at the ATK defence, which suffered big problems in the last campaign.
With their new signings, ATK are looking to go back to their old ways, with rapid speed in the wings. They have let go of their title-winning right-back Prabir Das and have signed Ashish Rai in his place.
ATK have also picked up Brendon Hamill from Australia’s top-tier football, and could have a star-studded line-up going into the league.
One of the most successful teams in the history of the competition, ATK Mohun Bagan have their own battles to fight with sections of fans demanding that the legacy club Mohun Bagan move away from ATK, which originally played in the ISL. The merger of the club soon turned sour over fans clashing ideologies, with Mohun Bagan fans demanding they have bigger say in slogans and crests.
