District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee reviews progress of Central Sector and Centrally-Sponsored schemes in Puducherry, highlighting civic issues.
A meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee was held at the Collectorate on Wednesday to review the progress of Central Sector (CS) schemes and Centrally-Sponsored schemes (CSS) in Puducherry.
Held under the chairmanship of Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) V. Vaithilingam, the meeting reviewed implementation of Central schemes by the Local Administration and Electricity departments. Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) S. Selvaganabathy, Opposition leader R. Siva, legislators, District Collector A. Kulothungan and senior officials attended the meeting.
Legislators who spoke at the meeting expressed dismay over the tardy implementation of several schemes and highlighted civic issues faced by the people.
Mr. Vaithilingam told The Hindu that schemes currently being implemented by the departments of Electricity and Local Administration were reviewed. Officials were asked to improve solid waste management programme and electricity distribution network. The government should consider evolving new schemes as the Centre was providing funds for preparation of Detailed Project Report, he said.
Another meeting would be held in April to review the progress of schemes taken up by Puducherry Smart City Development Limited, District Rural Development Agency, Directorate of Survey and Land Records, Department of Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare and Town and Country Planning, he said.
