The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has initiated raids in eight locations in Tamil Nadu over suspected ISIS links. Raids are underway at Chennai, Mayiladuthurai, Karaikal and five other locations.
The NIA took over the case of suspects who threatened a police officer during a vehicle check after unearthing a suspected ISIS link.
In February, during a vehicle inspection in Tamil Nadus Mayiladuthurai, Sadiq Basha and his associates had threatened police officers. Sadiq Basha, who runs the Khilafa party, had also threatened a sub-inspector with a gun which was later discovered to be an air gun.
NIA sources state that the raid is being conducted to find suspected links between Sadiq Basha, his associates Mohammed Ashiq, Mohammed Irfan, Jahabar Ali and Rahmath, with ISIS.
Further investigation is underway.
