Following the firing incident in Nagaland's Mon district, several students' unions and political parties, among others, have demanded the immediate repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the Northeastern region.
After fourteen civilians were killed in a firing incident in an area between Tiru and Oting village in Nagaland's Mon district involving security forces, several civil society groups, students' organisations, NGOs, political parties and tribal groups have raised their voices, demanding the immediate repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the Northeastern region.
Nagaland's most influential organisation, Naga Mothers' Association (NMA), condemned the incident and demanded that the state government take cognisance of the alleged human rights violations under AFSPA and strongly recommended its repeal.
