IPL 2022: Pacer Jasprit Bumrah said Mumbai Indians are going through a transition phase and the new group of players are beginning to settle into the team environment. MI have gotten off to a horror start,
Senior India pacer Jasprit Bumrah on Tuesday said Mumbai Indians are going through a transition phase after the mega auction and that the 5-time champions are enjoying the process of helping new players and youngsters integrate into the culture that has proved successful over the years.
Mumbai Indians have begun their IPL 2022 campaign on a poor note, remaining winless after 4 matches. While they are known as slow-starters, the 'fear factor' that intimidated opposition teams is missing from Rohit Sharma's men. In the absence of a high-quality bowling unit that MI relied on heavily over the years, skipper Rohit has come under pressure in crunch situations with the burden of responsibility falling heavily on Jasprit Bumrah.
The senior pacer, however, said he is confident that Mumbai will get back to winning ways and that new players are finding feet, getting used to the new environment.
Mumbai Indians let go of some key members of the core group, including the Pandya brothers, Trent Boult, Rahul Chahar and Nathan Coulter-NIle. Mumbai retained Rohit, Bumrah, Kieron Pollard and Suryakumar Yadav and broke the bank to buy back Ishan Kishan at the mega auction.
"Every team goes through a transition phase. We've had a big auction and two new teams have come, so a lot of our old players have also gone in different teams," Bumrah told the press on Tuesday."It's a transition phase that every cricketer understands, and every team goes through that. We are in that phase; we've got a new group. We've got some old core group, something of them, as well, but a lot of new guys who are understanding the team, understanding the franchise, understanding how the scenarios work.
"A lot of new young players, and upcoming talent, in our team as well. So understanding the format of the IPL, how you have to handle pressure and achieve success in this league.
"We are going through that. We enjoy that. Every player has gone through that, so we are looking forward that we go through this transition, and then we reach and then we have all the players we had and the quality will come back again," he added.
