Telangana is likely to heave a sigh of relief amid severe heatwave as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the monsoon is likely to set in by the weekend. It said that the monsoon across the state will be above normal this time.
The southwest monsoon is likely to hit Telangana by the weekend, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Earlier, the weather agency had predicted that the monsoon will enter the state by the first week of June but it got delayed as winds and moisture hadn't strengthened yet.
Issuing a long range weather forecast, the IMD said that the southwest monsoon is going to be above normal in most parts of the state. The weather department has predicted light to moderate rain with thunderstorms at isolated places over Telangana on Thursday.
In its seven-day weather forecast, the regional MeT predicted light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms at many places in Telangana.
At present, Telangana is reeling under severe heatwave and 22 districts in the state recorded maximum temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. The highest daytime temperature was recorded at 45.2 degrees in Jainath, Adilabad district.
Telangana has been receiving less rainfall and is currently reeling under a 58 per cent deficit. The IMD has hinted that this time the monsoon across the state will be above normal and will mark its onset from June 9 or 10.
Moreover, due to the low pressures in the Bay of Bengal, the weathermen have also warned of flooding seasons which the state experienced in previous years. But this month, the rains will be patchy and there will be no prolonged spell, Mahesh Palawat, Vice-President at Skymet told TOI. People in the state can expect more intense rain during July to September months.
On Tuesday, the IMD said that the southwest southwest monsoon has further advanced over some more parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, and Southwest and West-Central Bay of Bengal in the past 24 hours.
